Singularity
I’ve got this underlying belief going in my work and life that is based partly on a primary school knowledge of quantum theory and, more importantly, an innate feeling that it is true. The belief is that we are all somehow totally connected to each other and everything. It might sound a bit ‘out there’, which is when I reach for the quantum theory language. Something like the universe being made of energy more than cells.
I realise it’s a belief more than a fact, but it helps me get on the pitch more and hide in the stands less. Like with lots of beliefs, some days it’s easy for me to go with it and others I have serious doubts. And doubts can fester into alternative beliefs that are not so helpful. Beliefs that we are all separate, which in turn means we don’t belong and we don’t matter.
When I’m feeling like this I need to know it’s ok and also to be shown a way back. I was introduced to the Marie Howe poem, Singularity, read by Maria Popova, and somehow it helps reconnect me with connection. It’s less than five minutes but packs a punch. I’m not the greatest fan but this one hits the spot for me.
